One walk, eleven stages, one boundary.

This is the whole journey of a single step. Eleven stages carry your walk from the sole of your foot to the systems that need to know you are you. One line runs through the middle of that journey. The part of the signal that knows your walk stays on your side of it. Follow the eleven stages and you can see exactly what leaves your shoe: a yes or a no, and nothing else.

Two zones, eleven stages, two crossings.

The figure has two halves. On one side is your insole, and the walk it reads. On the other side is everything else: doors, terminals, phones, and our own pipeline. A dashed line separates them. We call that line Known, Not Shown.

Only two things ever cross it. A signed yes or no goes out to systems that need to check you. Movement features you have agreed to share go out to our pipeline. Your walk itself stays where it was read.

Crossing 01 · Doors, terminals, systems: A signed yes or no, and nothing else.

When a door or a terminal asks who is there, the insole does not send your walk. It sends a signed statement that the check was done. Yes, or no.

  • What the door learns

    That the person wearing the insole is the person it was enrolled to.

  • What the door never sees

    Your walk, your foot, or anything that could stand in for you somewhere else. There is nothing for it to keep, and nothing for anyone to steal from it later.

Crossing 02 · Phone: movement features, relayed by a phone you already own

The second crossing only happens if you open the consent gate. Then movement features relay by phone into our pipeline. Those features are stride lengths and sequences, not the walk signature itself.

The phone is a relay, not a store. It is your device, which is why the figure puts it outside our zone. Close the gate and this crossing stops.

  • Walk signature

    The raw pattern of where you press and how you move, as read at the surface of the insole. It never leaves the device.

  • Trusted privacy store

    A locked vault of memory inside the insole. It holds the walk signature you enrolled, tied to you.

  • Continuous authentication

    The insole compares the walker to the enrolled signature step after step, not just once at a door. A borrowed credential stops working, because the credential is the person.

  • Consent gate

    Your own switch, set when you enroll and turned off whenever you like. It decides whether anything beyond a yes or no ever leaves.

  • Doors, terminals, systems

    Outside systems get a signed yes or no and nothing else. They never hold a biometric.

  • Phone

    A relay you already carry. It passes on the movement features you have agreed to share. It is your device, not ours, which is why it sits outside our zone.

  • Classification

    Machine learning that names real events in the sensor stream: this is a heel strike, this is a toe-off, this is a stride and this is its length.

Three stages decide who the insole thinks it belongs to, whether that is still true, and what is allowed out.

    Trusted privacy store

    A locked vault of memory inside the insole. When you enroll, it takes your walk signature and keeps it, tied to you. Nothing reads it from outside.

  2. ii · STAGE 04

    Continuous authentication

    The insole keeps comparing the walker to that stored signature, step after step. A password checks once, at the door; this keeps checking. Hand your shoe to someone else and the match stops.

  3. iii · STAGE 05

    Consent gate

    Your own switch. You set it when you enroll and you can turn it off at any time. It decides whether anything beyond a yes or no leaves the insole.

Inside the insole.

Five of the eleven stages happen inside your shoe, before anything crosses the line. Here is what each one does.

Pressure and motion, read at the source.

The sole of your foot is the one place where your whole body meets the ground. Sensors in the insole read the pressure and motion there: more than 50,000 separate readings in 10 seconds of walking.

  • Where the load lands

    Which part of the sole carries your weight, and how hard.

  • And in what order

    How the load moves across your foot as the step rolls through.

The signal that never leaves.

Those readings form your walk signature: the raw pattern of where you press and how you move, over space and time. It is the part that can recognise you, so it is the part that stays put.

  • Read at the control surface

    The signature is formed inside the insole, at the surface that does the reading. It is never assembled somewhere else.

  • Held, not shipped

    It stays in the insole's own memory. There is no copy of it anywhere, ours included.

The paper trail.

One rule covers every stage after the boundary. Every reading and every model decision is time-stamped and kept in order. Every version of every model we have run is kept too. Replayable, auditable, versioned.

If a result is ever called into question, we do not have to argue about it. We replay the record and watch the system make the same decision again, with the same model that made it the first time.

Two limits sit at this end of the figure. Data from a study belongs to the research team that ran it, not to us. And outside parties cannot run their own models inside our pipeline, because we cannot audit, inspect or explain what we did not build.
